DIED. On the 16th March, at his residence, South Brisbane, Moreton Bay, after a short illness, George Christie, Esq., aged 36, a native of Rothes, Morayshire, Scotland, leaving a wife and four children to lament his death. This gentleman was well known to, and much respected by, many of the mercantile community and others in Sydney. About three years ago Mr. Christie left Sydney for South Brisbane, Moreton Bay, to open a branch of the house of Messrs. R. Towns and Co., in which locality, he was universally esteemed for his courtesy, integrity, and straight-forwardness in business matters. A private letter from a resident of North Brisbane under date 17th March, thus testifies to the late Mr. Christie's character. "I have just returned from following to the grave the remains of one of the best Scotchmen that were ever in Brisbane, George Christie, who died at an early hour yesterday morning, after an illness of some six or seven days, leaving a widow and four young children to bewail his departure. I may say that Mr. Christie's funeral was the most respectable, if not the largest I have seen in Brisbane."
