An inquest was held yesterday at Oxley Creek, on view of the body of Jackson Allen, a labourer, who was drowned last Saturday whilst bathing in the Brisbane River. From the evidence of a fellow labourer who had accompanied him, it appeared that deceased was not a good swimmer, though he had bathed several times at the same place ; that on entering the water this last time, it being mid-day, he was in a very heated state ; and that he had the same morning taken medicine. The presumption is that he was seized with a cramp and sank helplessly. The coroner's jury returned a verdict of "accidentally drowned."
