DEATH.
SPARKES.—On the 6th July, at the residence of her mother, M. A. Rosetta, of Fortitude Valley, Rose Hannah, youngest daughter of the late W. J. Sparkes, and step-daughter of the late H. Rosetta, aged 16 years.

An early settler was W. J. Sparkes, who died on January 7, 1851, aged 52. Beside him is his daughter, Rose Sparkes, who died in July, 1867, aged 16, and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Bowes, who died on June 30, 1859, aged 70. An old resident who came here in 1853, says that Sparkes died two years before she arrived, that he kept a general store near St. Patrick's Tavern, and next Paddy Maine's shop, in Queen street.
